Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville Completes 3rd Annual Fence Skills Championship™

Twenty-four installers, eight teams, and seven fence skills events showcased the speed and quality of work Rio Grande Fence Co. of Nashville customers have relied upon for 60 years at RGF’s 3rd Annual Fence Skills Championship™ Aug. 11, 2018.

This year’s three individual events included Weaving Chain Link Wire, Gate Fabrication, and Chain Link Fence Installation. The four-team events included Harvey Slide Gate, Fence Screen, Ameristar Montage Industrial, and M-Series Fence Rental Installations.

“This year we focused more on our team skills championships versus the individuals, to let the guys who are working together every day show off the flow that can happen when you get on a roll in the field,” said Derek Smith, Chief Operating Officer and third-generation owner.

The Fence Skills Championship™ sums up the Rio Grande Fence Company’s ethos: employee teamwork, pride, and fence industry skills; leading quality product offerings and installations for customers; continuity and stability of ownership, business execution, and employee retention and advancement.

The Fence Skills Championship™ highlights fence products and installations Rio Grande Fence Co. performs for customers every day. “We purposely included two of our most popular products customers request, Ameristar ornamental steel fence and our new M-Series temporary fence.”

“This year we’ve added M-Series to our product offering for our temporary fence division. They are welded wire panels that are twice as strong and twice as durable as the old chain link panels,” Hunter Newton, Project Manager, said. “Customers appreciate the look and stability they offer over competing products.”

In addition to hosting Rio Grande’s 3rd Annual Fence Skills Championship™, the Company is celebrating sixty years in business in 2018. During the event, RGF President and second-generation owner, Michael Smith, reflected on the Company’s long history and culture.

“The most important thing about a company that’s been in business sixty years is how they’ve done it that long. I would have to say it’s our employees,” Smith said. “We’ve got a lot of people who started when they were much younger and over time have evolved into crew leaders, field managers, and project managers. They’ve really grown with the company. We’re very proud of them.”

The Fence Skills Championship™ sums up the Rio Grande Fence Company’s ethos: employee teamwork, pride, and fence industry skills; leading quality product offerings and installations for customers; continuity and stability of ownership, business execution, and employee retention and advancement. “We love what we do, and we’re the best at it,” said Derek Smith.
