Former Treasury Official Patrick O’Brien Joins Cyber Security Summit Board

Former Assistant Secretary of the Treasury Patrick O’Brien has joined the Advisory Board of the Cyber Security Summit. The eighth annual Cyber Security Summit will be hosted Oct. 22-24 at the Minneapolis Convention Center and organizers are expecting more than 1,000 attendees.

In making the announcement, Cyber Security Summit Chairman Emeritus Andrew Borene said, “Our multidisciplinary advisory board will be greatly strengthened with the addition of Patrick’s enforcement expertise in transnational organized crime, foreign government threats to the private sector, and fraud detection. Patrick also brings us a wealth of knowledge in traditional security and counterterrorism, with over 15 years of federal government experience in terrorist financing and financial crimes.”

Borene added, “The recent emergence of blockchain technologies, mainstream cryptocurrency transactions and increasingly sophisticated fraud schemes all raise new cybersecurity and risk management concerns for private sector and government leaders.”

In his government career, Patrick O’Brien served as Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing and Financial Crimes at the U.S. Treasury, where he led policy development and engagement related to anti-money laundering, financial crimes and sanctions. He has also served in various high profile positions at the US Department of Justice (DOJ), including as the Senior Counsel to the Deputy Attorney General, and Counsel to FBI Director Robert S. Mueller III, and Principal Deputy for legislative Affairs. Presently, he is a Managing Director with the Defense, National Security and Justice practice at Deloitte. Mr. O’Brien is a Minnesota native with deep roots in the Twin Cities.
